Backpacking Basics

A brief introduction to backpacking that covers essential knowledge, gear selection, techniques, safety, and planning. Please bring a pen and notebook. Students are encouraged, but not required, to make an in-class donation to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

Class will be held at the Cohn School, 4805 Park Ave. Free public parking is available on Park Ave and 48th Ave. Please DO NOT use the main school entrance. Instead, enter the building on 48th Avenue through the NCE entrance. Staff will help you find your classrooms. Please arrive on time.

Nashville Community Education (NCE) provides affordable personal and professional enrichment to the Nashville community. NCE is a department of the Metro Nashville & Davidson County Government and is open to all Middle Tennessee residents over the age of 18. Class topics vary and include everything from art to languages, fitness to technology, cooking, business, career development and more! Classes are offered at a variety of location throughout Davidson County including West Nashville, East Nashville and South Nashville. Registration for Fall 2019 classes starts at our Annual Open House on Saturday, August 3, from 10am - 1pm outside of the Cohn School (4805 Park Ave). Online, phone and in-person registration will open the following Monday, August 6.
