Event Summary

The trip will meet at the Beech Gap Trail Head parking area off the
Cherohola Skyway out of Tellico Plains, Tennessee at approximately 9:00 pm.
The group will hike approximately 2 miles to Cold Springs and set camp for the
evening. On Saturday morning, the group will hike to Bob’s Bald and from Bob’s
Bald to Naked Ground. At Naked Ground, we will continue to hike to the
Hangover to camp for the evening. On Sunday morning, we will backtrack to the
parking area at Beech Gap Trail Head for departure back to Nashville,
Tennessee.

Cost: There are no costs to camp, backpack, or park in the Joyce Kilmer
Wilderness Area. Costs to cover lunch or dinner on March 1st and lunch or dinner
on March 3rd as well as any costs for ride shares with other participants are not
included. Typical costs for lunch or dinner on Friday (March 1st) or Sunday (March
3rd) is $10.00 to $15.00 per meal and ride share expense is $15.00 to $20.00 for
the trip. Meals and snacks during the backpacking trip are provided by the
participant.
Gear: The typical backpacking equipment required for a three day, two night
backpacking trip includes; backpack, winter sleeping pad, sleeping bag, tent,
stove, fuel, cooking pots and utensils, food, clothing layers for winter
backpacking trip, socks, micro spikes, water filter, water containers, food hanging
arrangements, etc.
Rain or Shine: This trip is rain or shine, however depending on the actual
conditions, the trip may cancel due to safety concerns over weather conditions.

Group Limit: Eight People

Pets: Dogs are not allowed on this trip.

Kids: No children under the age of 18
are allowed on this trip.


Logistics: The carpool will meet on Friday night on March 1st at the Beech Gap Trail Head parking
area around 9:00 pm EST. The mileage from Lightning 100 to the Cherohola
Skyway is 209 miles. Ride shares can be established by contacting Mike Orton
@ mike.orton@comcast.net . The plan will be to be on the trail no later than 9:30
pm on March 1st at the Beech Gap Trail Head. The plan will be to be back to the
Beech Gap Trail Head on March 3 rd by 12:00 pm to start the journey back to
Nashville.
