Event Summary

This a top ten rated trail in the country and one of the most diverse and beautiful in Tennessee. Today we are going trekking end to end.  The trail starts by passing Foster Falls along a 120 foot cliff. We then continue on to Ravens point thru Laurel Branch Gorge, passing many overlooks, waterfalls and an old moonshine still.  Lunch and rest up at Ravens Point then move on to Grundy Forest Parking lot. This is not an easy hike, no alternates, once you commit it’s a one way trek.

Remember, you MUST sign the e-waiver in order to participate!

When: Saturday, March 9th @ 7am

Where: North parking lot of Grundy Forest Natural Area

Difficulty: Very strenuous (+/- 14 miles in one day)

Weather: This trip may be rescheduled in the event of rain.

Pets: Dogs capable of keeping up on a leash are permitted.

Difficulty: Very Strenuous due to length and rocky trail conditions

Distance: +/- 14 miles

Trail Head: running water and restrooms available

What do you need?

  • Bring your camera, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water.
  • Make sure you wear layers.
  • Sturdy shoes or boots, Trail is very rocky in areas.
  • 2 extra pair of socks.
  • May have ford two creeks.
  • Flashlight / head lamp
  • Hiking poles recommended

Car Pool:  (please offer your driver gas money)

  • Leaving at 7:00 AM

  • Just off I-24 Exit 66A
  • Sam Ridley Parkway heading west   

Drive Directions:

Drive time: 1+15 hours from Smyrna

From Nashville:
  • I-24 to Monteagle Exit 134 Hwy 41, head towards Tracy City.
  • (Go approx 1 mile thru Monteagle – turn left on Hwy 41 at the road “Y”)
  • Pass the park's South Cumberland Visitor Station on your left after approx 2.3 miles. In approx 1.5 miles, on the right you'll see a sign for the trailhead entrance just before the Tracey City Electric Office Building. Turn right, you’re a ½ mile from the parking lot at this point. Follow the “Grundy Forrest State Natural Area signs...after 2 quick right turns, .3 miles, and .1 mile you will see a large paved parking lot just to the left of the fairground
