Join Team Green Adventures on this beginner-friendly backpacking trip through Pickett State Park! The section we'll be hiking is a loop through Pickett State Park and features tons of great sights along the way, including waterfalls, overlooks and tons of interesting rock features!

Join Team Green Adventures in Pickett State Park on this great, beginner-friendly backpacking trip, which features an overabundance of cool scenery.  Including waterfalls, historical sites, overlooks, caves, and lots of interesting rock formations along a short but diverse loop trail. Never been backpacking before? This is a great trip to get started with, as the hike is a relaxed 10 miles over two days, and your trip leaders can provide you help with gear and backpacking!

When: Saturday, September 30th at 8:00 am CST (Carpool) or 11:00 am CST (Trailhead)
Where: Pickett State Park
Near Jamestown, TN
Cost: FREE for Members & Non-Members

Trip Leader: Stephen Bryant

Difficulty: This is a 10-mile backpacking trip on mostly easy trail with easy sections. Proper trail shoes should be worn, and protection from the sun is recommended. Hikers should be in reasonably good physical condition with experience hiking at least 5 miles or more on wooded trails.   

Registration Deadline: Registration closes on Wednesday, September 27th at noon.
Group Size Limit: This trip is limited to 12 participants.

Parking: Parking is available for free near the trailhead.


Children Policy: This is a 13 and up event. Children 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult and have prior experience hiking strenuous terrain and longer distances
Dog Policy: Sociable dogs that are good around both people and other dogs are welcome. Dogs must have overnight camping experience.
Weather Policy: This trip is drizzle or shine. In the event of severe weather, this trip may be posponed or cancelled.

Drive time to trailhead from Nashville: About 3 hours
Hike Distance: Approx 4.5 hours each day, plus stops for lunch and side hikes
Estimated Hike Time: Approx. 5 hours each day

You will need to supply your own meals and water. There will be access to water and restrooms at the ranger station before we begin hiking.

This beginner-friendly backpacking trip features an abundance of historic sites, waterfalls and overlooks, with interesting rock formations along a short but diverse trail. Side trails along the way will take hikers through notable park features like the blaze-marked Hidden Passage, the scenic Crystal Falls, an abandoned rock railroad tunnel, and the Double Falls trail and campsite, which features a small stream crossing to reach the falls. We'll spend the night at this large group campsite. The diversity of scenery and short hiking distance both days makes this a fantastic beginner backpacking trip, perfect for first-timers!

Plan to return to Nashville around 5:00-6:00 pm on Sunday. Group lunch on the way home is optional.

What to Bring: Participants must provide their own backpacking gear, camping gear and food. A checklist can be found on the Team Green Resources page, or by clicking HERE. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
