The 8th Annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival is on! Once again Team Green Adventures and Lightning 100 will be competing down the Cumberland River! This event benefits the Cumberland River Compact, helping to protect and preserve the Cumberland River Watershed.

EVENT DETAILS

Celebrate the 9th Annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival by registering your own team, joining Lightning 100's Team Green, or showing up as a spectator! This event benefits the Cumberland River Compact and features music, friendly team rivalry, a river race with Hong Kong style Dragon Boats, vendors and a Beer Garden with finishline viewing! 

When: Saturday, September 12th from 8:00am-4:00pm
Where: RiverFront Park
Downtown Nashville

Trip Leader: Matt Genova ("Coach")

Difficulty: Paddling experience recommended, but not necessary. Races average 1-2 minutes each, with a maximum of 3 races per team. All teams get the opportunity to practice on the water in an actual Dragon Boat the week before race day.
Registration Deadline: Deadline for all Team Registrations is _______; Registration deadline for Lightning 100's Team Green is August 1st. 
Group Size Capacity: Each team may have a total of 24 participants (20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 3 substitute paddlers)

Parking: Parking is available at LP Field Lot R for free (limited spots), or normal downtown parking. This is the same day as the final 2015 Live On The Green performance. Participants planning to attend the show after Dragon Boat festival are encouraged to take advantage of early parking near Live On The Green.

POLICIES

Children Policy: This is a family-friendly spectator event. Participants must be 18 years or older to race.
Dog Policy: This is a dog friendly spectator event.
Weather Policy: This is a drizzle or shine event. See official event site for more details on more severe weather policies.
Cancellation Policy: See official race website for Team Cancellation Policy. Participants who register to be part of "Lightning 100's Team Green" will not receive refunds for cancellations, since all registration moneys will be forwarded as a donation to Cumberland River Compact.

HOW DRAGON BOAT WORKS

You have two options for registration:

OPTION 1: Form Your Own Team
$1250 Early Registration Corporate Team (before May 15th)/ $1500 Corporate Team (after May 15th)
$1000 Early Registration Non-Profit Team (before May 15th)/ $1100 Corporate Team (after May 15th)
$50 Early Registration Individual* (before May 15th) / $65 Individual* (after May 15th)
*You'll be paired up with other teammates to form a team

OPTION 2: Join Lightning 100's Team Green
$10 for Team Green Members (up to 2 spots at the member price)
$20 for Non-Members

TENTATIVE EVENT SCHEDULE

8:00 am Registration Opens
8:30 am Opening Ceremony
9:00 am 1st races begin
11:00 pm 2nd races begin
1:30 pm Final races begin for the Top 16 Teams
4:00 pm Awards Ceremony

Teams can have up to 20 active paddlers, and 4 "Backup" paddlers. Teams must have at minimum 16 paddlers and at least 8 female paddlers in the boat at the start of each race. Check out the full rules and regulations.

ABOUT LIGHTNING 100'S TEAM GREEN

Online Registraiton for Lightning 100's Team Green team opens on May 1st and closes on August 1st.  Registration is limited to the first 24 paddlers to register. To determine which 21 participants get to participate in the first race, each participant will earn points leading up to race day.

  • Team Green Members: 1 point for being a Team Green Adventures member.
  • Dragon Boat Alumni: 1 point for having prior Team Green/Lightning 100 Dragon Boat experience
  • Land Practices: 1 point for each "Land Practice" attended. Land practices will take place at a Nashville Area Park where we'll discuss team stragety, team theme, chants, costumes, and pratice paddling techniques at picnic tables.
  • Water Practice: 1 point for attending the Official Dragon Boat Practice before race day. This is our Team's one-and-only chance to practice in a Dragon Boat before the race, determine seating positions in boat to balance weight on the water, and re-assess our team strategy. Water Practices take place the week prior to Race Day (September 7-11). Please know that Team Green's assigned time could be on a work day.

REGISTRATION

Online registration for Lightning 100's Team Green Members ($10/$20) opens on May 1st and closes on August 1st. We'll have 6 weeks of practice time before race day. Members may register up to two spots at the member price. 100% of your Registration Fees goes to the Cumberland River Compact.
