Odious racial prejudice is explored via romances between an American nurse struggling to accept a French plantation owners mixed race children and a US lieutenant fearing social consequences should he marry his Tonkinese Island girl. Premiering on Broadway in 1949, the anti-racist message is still relevant 68 years later.
