ABOUT THE TRAIL

We will most likely be hiking part of the North/ South trail and then the trail around Honkers Bay. You should be prepared to travel 8-10 miles for both trails. In years past we have broken the hiking into two segments of about 3 hours each so if you can always opt out of the second trip and check out other attractions at LBL (bison range, homeplace, nature station) and still grab dinner with the group on the way back. Dress warmly in layers, wear sturdy boots, and bring plenty of water and lunch. We will have a few spotting scopes and binoculars, but if you have your own, please bring them!

Once we get to LBL, we’ll check with the visitors center to find out if the eagles have been hanging out in any particular areas. If the birds are scattered about, we’ll hike a section of the North/South trail from Sugar Bay to Duncan Lake (this is where the birds were hanging out at this time in past years). After that we’ll head over to the Woodsland Nature Station and hike around the Honkers Bay before heading back.
